OLD

August 2020

It’s been a very busy month at Fanatic, as we’ve been working on a bunch of exciting projects for prospective, new and long-standing clients.

Read on for our sum-up of each team’s highlights.

August 2020

Studio Snapshot

With many of our team having put holidays on hold due to current travel restrictions, we’ve all been enjoying getting to know Bristol and its surrounding areas better.

At Fanatic we’re also members of Cyclescheme, so some of our team have treated themselves to a new bike to go exploring with. Above you can see a photo from our Digital Marketing Lead Joe’s recent day out.

This month, we (and the rest of the UK) also said goodbye to our developer Radek, who moved back to Poland to be closer to his family. He’s done amazing work in his time with us and we’ll miss him in the office and on our Zoom calls – good luck for the future, Radek!

A brand refresh

Provincial are a company based in Ireland who provide Security and Support Services to a diverse range of clients. They came to us looking to expand upon their current brand, in order to bring more character and energy into their marketing and internal comms.

Our branding process

The aim of the brief was to enhance their current brand with visuals that could be carried across internal and customer-facing collateral. To create this refresh we did a brand audit to fully understand the company and what they’re all about. This involved travelling to their offices to hold some workshops with employees to find out what values are most important at Provincial.

The outcome

Our branding workshop helped to explore and establish their true purpose and the experience you have with Provincial, as a client and team member. This allowed us to visually communicate and optimise the brand to speak directly to all of their audience segments. As a result we created some icons and patterns to help enhance their branded visuals.

A returning client

This month we were excited to welcome back Effect Doctors after they had wound down their work during the lockdown. Over the last few months they’ve been busy adding in new products and services.

supporting new changes

These new offerings have called for a new approach to how the website is structured, the content and social media plan, as well as a new approach to PPC.

moving forward

Our team have been busy creating a new content plan that covers all the new offerings and highlights the expertise of the Effect Doctors team. We’ve also been working on the UX (user experience) of the site, testing the capabilities of different booking systems to ensure they can offer exactly what the client requires and to help drive their bookings and appointments.

What's inspired us this month?

Roy Lichtenstein

I was doing GCSE Art when I first came across what I called WHAAM!… not the band, but the POP art by Roy Lichtenstein. I painted the flames in several projects at that time, and it was the first thing that made me think of getting into Graphic Design. In 2001, when we started Fanatic, my mother-in-law sent me this painting on a postcard with a message knowing I liked it, and I stuck it up on my computer where I was working. Later I bought large prints of WHAAM!, and hung them in the studio. The postcard is also still on the wall in the Fanatic studio, and I feel it will always be there!

We’ve had influences of Roy Lichtenstein in several Fanatic projects, sometimes using the enlarged print dots or the bold colours. But the inspiring thing for me is the way that Pop Art was such a radical turn at the time, and this painting symbolised this, though it appears effortlessly simple on first impression, which so many great designs do.

New styles and designs are always hard to find, but it requires bravery to suggest new ideas, to push though and develop them far enough to work. If I’m wanting to feel brave, I use WHAAM! to remind me that it’s definitely possible, even if my design will never hang in the Tate!
