Following a gradual deployment over several weeks, Google successfully implemented its latest core search algorithm update on October 19, 2023.
Initially introduced on October 5, the October 2023 Core Update is predicted to bring significant changes to search rankings, as previous core updates have.
Check out the videos below to hear a breakdown of what these updates are and what they mean for our websites.
What is a Google Core Update?
Google stands unrivalled in the domain of search engines and this is due to their continual improvement in their ranking algorithm. Several times a year, they make significant and broad changes to their search engine algorithm and systems – this is what’s known as “Core Updates”. So far, Google has rolled out two major updates this year and this will be the third.
What might happen to website performance after an update?
The Core Updates could have a significant impact on website rankings. For example, some sites may experience changes in their rankings while others may experience a huge decrease. For those sites experiencing a drop in their rankings, it is important to monitor the analytics and identify areas of improvement, which should be actioned. It is also important to note that these improvements should only be implemented once Google releases the full updates, rather than during the release process.
What is happening in October’s Updates?
Google released two different sets of updates: one focusing on Core Update and the other on Spam Update.
Core Updates focused on improving Google search results and demoting low quality sites. Spam Updates, on the other hand, focuses on improving Google’s Spam Brain, an AI algorithm created to detect and eliminate spam from Google.
