Happy New Year! After a very different but very nice and relaxing Christmas, the Fanatic team are ready to get stuck into a number of new and exciting projects. We’re also looking forward to our 20th anniversary next month – although we can’t have a party to celebrate, we’ll be wearing our special hoodies with pride!

Bristol got an exciting addition last month in the form of a new Banksy, titled ‘Achoo’ (very topical). We love seeing examples of this city’s amazing creativity and we hope we’ll see more throughout the year!

What's new in the
Design team?

5G Encode Animation

We were tasked with creating an engaging animation showcasing the use cases that can benefit from the implication of 5G. We created an isometric factory scene showing the different applications of 5G in the workplace and how it can benefit productivity and output. We’re really pleased with the outcome and hopefully looking forward to working more on this project in the new year!

See what the Development
team have been up to

In December we welcomed Alice as our new Developer and gave her the usual Fanatic Q&A.

What made you choose Fanatic?

The company came across very friendly and focused on employee wellbeing. That was a big selling point for me.

What were you doing before Fanatic and what made you get into Web Development?

I was a Web developer for another agency. Before I became a Developer I was an Illustrator. I decided on a change of direction a few years ago as I needed to be in a more stable industry. I have found that having a background in design has really helped me thrive as a Developer. I am really happy that was my journey.

What have you enjoyed most so far?

I’ve enjoyed learning, I have been given my first WordPress project that’s completely my own. It’s been really fun to have ownership of that and start making my own workflow decisions. It’s a really rewarding way to learn.

What are you looking forward to learning more about?

It’s been very interesting to go from beginning to end of a project, from the design decisions to hosting and putting the project out in the world. I’m looking forward to repeating that process a few times so I can be more and more autonomous.

What’s an interesting fact about you?

I have been on over 60 scuba dives, including four WW2 Japanese wrecks in the Philippines.

Dedicated landing pages for audience segments

Your website needs to speak directly to your target audience, and that means having landing pages that are designed specifically with them in mind. If your visitors find a page dedicated to their needs they won’t have to waste time wading through multiple pages to find everything they’re looking for.

But why is this important? If you make sure that your potential customers find reasons to engage with you quickly and easily they’ll be much more likely to stay on your website and find out more about you and your company.

This month we’ve been working with Clik to make sure they have dedicated web pages for all the industries they operate in. We’ve created pages to enhance the user journey and overall customer experience – pages that have minimal distractions and are personalised, simple and focused on a specific conversion action.

Industry News

Last month saw Google roll out one of their Core Algorithm Updates, the first since May 2020. The details of these updates are always kept under wraps, but we know it was a big one from the amount of ranking changes – many web pages rose or dropped in the SERPs as a result.

Many SEOs have tried to figure out what the update involved – theories include tweaks to how Google understands web queries and laying the groundwork for the Core Web Vitals update this year. But the most valuable way to spend your time is to ensure all of your web pages offer quality content, are search engine optimised and offer your users something unique and useful.

Remember, we’re always here to help!
